THE FCBC STORY

WE STAND FOR LIVES in service to CHRIST

In 1961 a small group of 23 individuals met at the home of William and Erma Bowser under the leadership of Rev. William T. Young to form a mission called Westmoreland Community Baptist Temple in White Plains. In 1966, the name was changed to Community Baptist Church. After occupying two different places, the congregation moved into the current house of worship in 1968 at 142 Edgepark Road in Greenburgh. Rev. Young retired in 1978. Shortly after Rev. Nicholas E. Pierce was called to pastor in 1979, the church incorporated under its present name, First Community Baptist Church. Over the years, membership grew and the sanctuary was beautified. Upon his retirement in 1994, Rev. Wiley W. Robinson was called to pastor the church in 1995. During his tenure, the church installed a baptismal pool. After his resignation in 2006, Rev. Amos Marsh led the congregation; and in 2012 the membership elected the fourth Pastor of FCBC Rev. Dr. Tyrone H. Robinson, whose vision for the church continues to bring growth in service to God.

MISSION STATEMENT

A group of God fearing people led, we believe, by the spirit of Christ came together at a time when adverse winds were blowing and they felt the need of each other; a closer walk with God that they might be able to demonstrate what they already believed, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1

The purpose of the church shall be the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Our church shall seek to attain this through the worship of God, preaching the gospel, and Christian education. We encourage Christian living by the members and receive people wishing to become followers of Jesus Christ.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • Our Identity as Servants

Every team has a symbol that identifies who they are and what they represent, often displayed prominently on the front of the uniform. Too often, however, attention shifts away from that shared identity and toward the name on the back. At First Community Baptist Church, our focus remains on the servants who wear the uniform and, above all, on the One we are called to represent. We identify ourselves as servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. The responsibility of ministry is a privilege, because we believe that only what is done for Christ will last.

  • Our View of the Church

We believe the church is more than a building marked by a cross. It is a community of peole growing in relationship with God and with one another.

  • About our Humanity

We believe God entered into humanity through Jesus Christ, revealing a God who understands the human experience personally. In Chirst, God did not stand at a distance from our struggles; He came near with empathy, wisdom, and truth. We therefore understand God's relationship with humanity as one marked not merely by sympathy, but by true empathy.

  • About Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God, and each person must choose whether to receive that gift by fatih. We may either accept or reject it. In John 14:1-6, Jesus makes clear that He is the way back to God and the source of our salvation.

  • About the Bible

The Bible is the infallible Word of God and serves as our guide for faith, life, and ministry. However, we are not called merely to read the Bible; we are called to study it carefully, humbly, and prayerfully. Through Scripture, God guides us into his will for our lives and our work in ministry.

LIVING LIFE INDIVIDUALLY,

TOGETHER

Men and women everywhere are born to live together, not alone.  As a closed-knit church, we believe we can all walk along our individual paths, together. With a strong shared sense of His love, each member of the FCBC community can find a way to live a wholesome life of faith while sharing the struggles, happy moments, and wishes with other members of the church.
